BJP, Congress use Chatt Puja to win over the Poorvanchalis
The population of the Poorvanchali community in Delhi, has grown significantly over the last two decades. Currently there are 50 lakh people from eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar residing in different parts of Delhi. So, none of political parties can afford to take their support for granted.
Leader from both the Congress and the BJP in a bid to win over the Poorvanchali community, celebrated Chatt Puja on the banks of river Yamuna, with the people from the community. BJP chief ministerial candidate Harsh Vardhan along with other BJP leaders like Vijay Goel, visited different ghats along the Yamuna in Delhi.
Harsh Vardhan criticised Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit for turning a blind eye towards the plight of the Poorvanchali population. He blamed the Congress government for the present condition of the Yamuna river in Delhi. He promised that if elected to power, the BJP would clean of the Yamuna river in 15 months. Vardhan said that the Congress was not cleaning up the Yamuna, notwithstanding the fact that so many people come here to take part in the Chatt Puja celebrations.
Sheila Dixit also joined the Chatt Puja celebrations in order to garner support for her third straight stint in the corridors of power in New Delhi.
